Master Trooper William J. Modén

My world was forever changed the night of June 14, 2019. I lost the love of my life, my everything. My husband, Master Trooper William Modén, was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was investigating an earlier crash on I-70 in Deer Trail, Colorado. William had served with the Colorado State Patrol for twelve and a half years and was assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Unit. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Master Trooper.

William was an amazing son, a loving brother, the fun uncle, the friend that you could always rely on, and a loyal brother in blue. His LARGER than life personality, smile and laugh are what gravitated everyone to him. He had a way of making everyone feel special, and was a friend to all. He was the first to always lend a hand, to make you laugh and smile, and to be there when you were down. William believed in making a difference in his community, and being a man of integrity. He believed in impacting others through kindness, respect, compassion, faith and selflessness.

I smile when I think about William and the love we shared for sixteen amazing years. Out of those sixteen years we were married for twelve. Our life was full of so much joy and love. I wouldn’t change one second of our life together. William was my best friend, my rock, my soulmate, and the very best husband. He made sure I knew every single day how much he loved me. We lived a full life in the sixteen years we had together. Of course it wasn’t near enough, but the time we got was magical.

I lost William and our four children all within a year and a half, but through my pain I have learned that there is so much beauty that can come from ashes. That there is always a rainbow. There can be so much good in loss, you just have to open your eyes and heart to see how the Lord is working for you. William used to say to me, “be strong and courageous.” He helped instill into me to be brave through all things, and trust what God has planned for us. Never lose sight of hope.

Will dedicated his life to his faith in the Lord, his family, his friends and to being a State Trooper.
